Our student branch IEEE SB GECI is one of the vibrant student branches of our section with 120+ student members. IEEE SB GECI has always laid emphasis on areas related to technology, offering access to technical innovation and networking opportunities. IEEE and its members inspire a global community to innovate for a better tomorrow through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. IEEE is the trusted “voice” for engineering, computing, and technology information around the globe.This is the world’s largest technical professional organization which has one of its student branches at Government Engineering College Idukki. Its outline was in 2015 in accordance with the student representative Salmanulfaris and the college faculty Prof. Ramesh Babu . In 2016 Mr.Vijay S Paul, former secretary at IEEE Kochi Subsection, addressed the students and gave them an induction session. Later from the first of December 2019, IEEE SB GECI blossomed. A door to the new world of opportunities has been opened to each and everyone who aspires to learn and evolve. The team spirit and corporation that was shown towards us till date by our members is responsible for the numerous milestones we have achieved so far. We also have an excellent crew of Executive Committee members who are selected among the student members and the professional members of the student branch. They play a great role in leading this student branch to its success.

ACTIVITIES
Over the past few years, we have built castles in the air, laying strong on the foundation of the collective team effort, hard work and enthusiasm and conducted 200+ events in the student branch. The spectacle of events dispersed over the years of these SB Chapters has shown us the level to which we could rise. In the past academic year 2022 our SB conducted a streak of quality events in the student branch including 38+ technical and 10+ non technical events in the student branch. These include workshops, webinars, talksession and competitions. Some of the noticeable events conducted previous year are mentioned below :
- Pi hack : First 24 hour offline hackathon of our college.
- Hour of code : An year long recurring event which helped the students to develop their programming skills.
- CL Battle : A command line wargame which helped the students to familiarize basic linux commands.
- IGNITE 1.X : A series of events which introduced the students to the world of IOT.
- Beyond Print : A one day workshop which helped the students to step into the field of Robotics.
- Substation visit : A visit to the Lower Periyar substation which introduced the emerging engineers of our college to commercial production of electricity.

IEEE SB GECI decided to form a new enthusiastic team to lead the Student Branch in 2023. As another year of exceptional accomplishments comes to close,search for volunteers with the vibrant, competent and exuberant skillset to hold the chain of the legacy was decided.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki conducted a PC Assembling Workshop. The session was handled by Sanjayan N, Vice Chair IEEE CS SBC GECI.
The session was very interactive and informative which was dedicated to the first year students of the college .The session gave an introduction to pc assembling and made them capable of understanding various pc components and how to assemble a pc of their own.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki conducted a workshop on Introduction to Figma. The session was handled by Vishak Raj S Panicker, 3rd year IT student of GECI which aimed to help the students to get knowledge on the Figma platform and its features. Provide participants with a basic understanding on how to use Figma for design projects.
The Figma workshop had provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to the platform and its features. By the end of the workshop, participants had got a solid understanding of how to use Figma for design projects. The skills and knowledge gained from this workshop will help participants improve their design skills and increase their efficiency in the design process. The session was very interactive, the speaker made room for participants to clear their doubts and do some interesting, engaging works.

IEEE SB GECI in association with IEEE Kerala YP organized a 1-day YP Talks on Mobile Application Development using Thunkable. The speaker for the workshop was Mr. Jacob Thomas Puthukeril. The session dealt with the development of a beautiful and powerful website from scratch onwards.

IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted Hour of Code Ice Breaking Session to give the Students of GECI an idea of the year long recurring program Hour of Code which aims to provide free coding classes from basics and aims to develop a coding community in the institution.
Resource person Mr. Gokul C M noticeably handled the session and made the participants aware about the importance of coding and distinctly presented the opportunity that Hour of Code is providing for them.

YP WORKSHOP 07 May 2022

IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI in association with IEEE Kerala YP organized a one-day YP Workshop on UI/UX Designing. The speaker for the workshop was Aakarsh B. It was conducted in the CS Department. The session was exclusively for students of Government Engineering College Idukki.
Mr.Aakarsh B noticeably handled the session and made room for the participants to develop their skill in UI/UX designing.The main topics covered includes importance of UI designing and to use the Figma.The session was useful and informative for all, and helped to develop simple projects.
CL - BATTLE- Win the battle of command lines !

The Command Line (CL) Battle is an annual event organized by IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI, a sequel event of Hour of Code. The event was held on May 23, 2022, and was open to all students of the college.
The competition aimed to identify and recognize students who have a good understanding of command-line interfaces, Linux Shell, Compilers, Git and GitHub. The event was a command line Wargame using basic Linux Commands which comprised 15 levels. The participants were asked to perform various tasks using command-line tools and utilities, such as file management, text processing, system administration, and network troubleshooting. Prizes worth 500 were set for congratulating the winners.
Hoc-Logic Building 09 June 2022 Time: 4:30pm to 6:30pm
IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki conducted a Logic Building workshop as a part of the year long recurring event Hour of Code. The session was handled by Prof. Ratheesh T K, Assistant Professor at Department of Information Technology GECI .
The session was very interactive and informative which was dedicated to the first year students of the college .The session taught students how to approach a problem and draft the solution from the view of a programmer. The class was taken by solving some interesting questions by applying the basic logic and made everyone participate in finding the solution. The session made them capable of analyzing problem statements and reaching out the best solutions.
HoC-Hello World

IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted Hello World as a part of Hour of Code which introduces the students to the basics of programming through hands-on interactive sessions. The session was handled by Robin Raj and Vishnu Das both from S6, IT GECI.
Both of them noticeably handled the session and made a room for the participants to implement the basic concepts of programming and clear their doubts .The session was carried out by guiding them to use text editor for creating their first c program file and to compile them.All the attendees were able to write basic C programs and execute them successfully.
CL- BATTLE - a walkthrough 22 June 2022
IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted CL Battle - walkthrough as the sequel event of CL Battle - win the battle of Command Lines!.The event was organized by Arvin Joestus to explain basic linux commands to the students of HoC by solving the war that was created by the speaker for the understanding and practice of the linux commands taught to them in the previous HoC- Prerequisite session.
The event helped many participants of the competition to complete the tasks assigned with the war game and clear their doubts by solving the wargame and finding the flags.
The session was very interactive and interesting for the participants.
Introduction to Firebase Web

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki had conducted a workshop on backend development using Firebase which helped the students of the student branch chapter to get knowledge on backend development and authentication.
The session was very interesting and assisted many of the students to create a basic login web page using basic HTML and CSS and also taught them how to use the firebase application to link the webpage to a backend programme and database for authentication and verification .The session was very interactive and the speaker Abhinav A V made a room for the participants to clear their doubts and do some really interesting works.
HoC-Syntax Error

IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted Syntax Error as a part of Hour of Code and continuation of the Hello World sessions .The session was taken by Janajith D, Chairperson IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI .
The session was aimed to cover the basic concepts of programming such as loops, iterations and recursion. The session was interesting and informative and helped the students to understand the concepts by solving some interesting problems through coding. Students felt comfortable and informative through the session as individual attention was provided by the coordinators of the event.
Web Design Competition

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki in collaboration with Tinkerhub GECI conducted a Web design competition. The event was a success and gave the participants a platform to showcase their designing skills and also gave them an experience in attending competitions.
The question along with the rules and guidelines were provided to the participants at the starting of the event. A proper detailed client requirement and resources were provided to the participants and best work submitted by the participants in the time constraint after judgment is announced as the winner. Avinash K B of S4 CSE GECI was selected as the winner after judgment and prize was awarded to him.
HoC-CrossCode

IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted Crosscode – online crossword puzzle solving and debugging competition as a part of the Hour of Code classes.The event aims to test basic knowledge of the students in programming which they learnt through the HoC classes.Cash prize of Rs 200 were offered to the winner of the competition
The event was conducted as two rounds.First round the link to the crossword puzzle was provided to the participants and they were asked to solve the puzzle and submit the solution to the coordinators.
In the second round question codes that to be debugged are also provided as a Pdf document.The Pdf document was password protected and the password for unlocking the same can be found by solving the crossword puzzle .The debugged code was asked to send to the coordinator for checking and the first one to complete the two tasks and whose codes working properly was declared as the winner. Hafis Muhammad T K of S4 CSE was announced as the winner of the competition.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki had conducted /Imagine - MidJourney AI Art Competition on their discord server of Hour of Code.
The event was launched as part of the year long recurring event Hour of Code and the event aims to introduce new technology The Mid Journey Bot to the students and make them familiar with its use and applications by conducting a competition on generating art using the mid journey bot in the theme Onam in the #art-generator channel of the server and submit their best work in the #art-submission channel of the discord server.The event was grant success with good participation and the event was also offered with a prize pool of Rs.500.The works of the students was evaluated based on their prompt quality and matching the theme.The first position was grabbed by Najid of S5 IT, second position by Anex Antony of S3 CSE and third position was held by Aromaljith S of S5 IT.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki conducted an IEEEXtreme16.0 orientation session in offline mode by the campus Ambassador. The session agenda was to introduce the IEEEXtreme competition to the students of the campus and clear their doubts regarding the competition. The session was handled with the materials provided by the Xtreme team to the ambassador and he handled the session in an enhanced manner by motivating the attendees to register for the competition and participate for the same.
The session filled with enquiries about the competition and was very interactive.The session was marked as a success as the registration for the competition rose after the session.
Rice Up

IEEE Computer Society Kerala Chapter in collaboration with IEEE Computer Society SBC GECI conducted Rice Up - Linux Ricing competition. Ricing is an art through which a Linux user can customize their working environment and make it comfortable and beautiful for themselves.
The event provided a platform for the ricing enthusiasts to showcase their skills and work.
The competition started on 26 September and gave the participants 10 days to submit their work to participate in the competition.
The event was released with proper guidelines and the theme of the competition were Meme, Retro and Artistic in which the submission can be individual or GroupWise. The participants were asked to submit their Github/Gitlab repository where they list the dot files and instructions to reproduce the same in other systems along with the screenshots and GIFs showing the workflow of their submission. The event offered prize money of Rs 2500/-
A total of 6 submissions were there for the event and the best among them were selected as the winners based on judging criteria and guidelines published earlier. The first position was grabbed by Jazil T S of Gec Palakad, the Second position by Vishnudas V of Gec Idukki and the Third position by Aquib Javed T of RIT Kottayam.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki conducted a coding competition to train students in front of IEEEXtreme – 24-Programming Competition and it was made as a continuation to year long recurring event Hour of Code. The question along with the rules and guidelines were provided to the participants at the starting of the event. The event is conducted online using hackerRank platform. After the allotted time the event was closed and according to the point table, winners were being decided.

The question along with the rules and guidelines were provided to the participants at the starting of the event. The event was conducted online using hackerRank platform. After the allotted time the event was closed and according to the point table, winners were being decided.
PREP IT UP-Placement Guidance Session

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki had conducted a placement Guidance Session ‘PREP IT UP’ in collaboration with Placement cell ,GEC Idukki.The session was handled by Arun Chandran ,founder and CEO of TRYCLE and Sujitha Rajagopalan,Co-founder and COO of TRYCLE. THe session focused to educate students about what interviewers are looking for in a candidate and how to make the profile concisely to stand out from the rest of the candidates.
The session was very interesting and assisted many of the students who are looking forward to a good job . The session help out participants to be aware about the key factors that we must concentrate on when we are approaching an interview. The session was a success with 51 participants.
Pi-Hack

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki organized a 24 hours hackathon Pi-HACK on 10 and 11 December 2022. The event kicked off with the facilitation from Dr Reena Nair- HOD CSE dept GECI along with Dr Sunil K S -Branch Counselor IEEE SB GECI and Dr Visakh R -Staff Advisor IEEE CS SBC GECI. The event was enhanced by the judges Athira T J -Ass. System Engineer TCS along with Siril Tharakan -Software Engineer Kalkitech Communication Pvt.Ltd and Nithin A R -Product Engineer IBS with their mentorship and evaluation of the work done by the participants. The goal of a Pi-HACK was to come up with creative solutions to the problem statements given at the beginning. The event was a grand success with an active participation of 70 students in 18 teams having 3-4 members. After the evaluation Team BLUEFOX came up as the winner. Followed by LMNTRIX and 0xHash. The winning solution was presented with a cash prize of ten thousand rupees and the runners-up were awarded seven thousand and three thousand rupees respectively.

The event was aimed at testing the awareness of participants related to National Technology Day as well as their ability to crack various cryptographic codes and texts. The cryptographic codes consisted of Morse code, pigpen cipher, Geohashing code, binary code, and pictorial representation.

The session was very inspiring which made the participants aware about the benefits of being an IEEE CS member. The session encouraged everyone to join the Computer Society and assisted to know about its activities. More than 25 students participated in the session.

As a part of ' IEEE XTREME 15.0' IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering college Idukki, had conducted an orientation program on IEEE XTREME.
This orientation program was aimed to make students aware about this global level competition and to make them familiarize with the distinct levels and essence of this competition.
The resource person was Christina Susan Jacob , IEEE XTREME 15.0 Campus ambassador of our college. She clearly and prominently explained about the levels and criteria of the competition. This orientation assisted students to familiarize with this competition and for clearing their queries.
About 20 students participated in the orientation program.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki had conducted LET’S XTREME#2 , a series of coding competitions focused on assisting students to crack ‘IEEE XTREME 15.0’. The competition was conducted in two parts. The competition enhanced students to know about distinct levels and essence of the global level competition.
The competition aimed to give practice to the participants and to make them confident in competitive programming. In this competition , the participants came across different levels of coding questions. 8 students registered for the competition and participated in it.

A webinar session on edge computing as a part of INFORMATYKA organized by WiC of IEEE Computer Society Kerala Chapter. ENEDGE was a one day webinar session on edge computing conducted as a part of INFORMATYKA on 2nd October 2021 at 10:00 AM . The session was handled by Mr.Sam Nagar, Senior Vice-President at Siemens.The event was conducted on Google Meet.
The session covered the basic features of edge computing, its working and also the future aspects. It was an informative session and was useful for the participants.The webinar ended by 11:00 AM after which feedback from participants were collected through Google forms.Positive responses were received and informed their concerns for more events in future.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki had conducted a placement Guidance Session ‘PREP IT UP’ in collaboration with Placement cell, GEC Idukki.The session was handled by Arun Chandran, founder and CEO of TRYCLE and Sujitha Rajagopalan, Co-founder and COO of TRYCLE. THe session focused to educate students about what interviewers are looking for in a candidate and how to make the profile concisely to stand out from the rest of the candidates.
The session was very interesting and assisted many of the students who are looking forward to a good job. The session helps participants to be aware about the key factors that we must concentrate on when we are approaching an interview. The session was a success with 51 participants.

The session was handled by Sanjay P V, Newsletter Editor, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. The session assisted the participants to enhance their designing interest and skills. The webinar was very interesting and well explained through various features of Adobe Illustrator and distinct ways and forms to design a Logo and its structures.
The session assisted those who are fond of the distinct structures of logos and interested to design one. The webinar was a success with 40 participants.

IEEE Computer Society SBC Government Engineering College Idukki recently organized a Blog Writing Competition on the topic "Evolution of Torrent." The competition was open to students from all colleges and the last date for submission was January 9, 2022. The prize for the competition was worth Rs. 1,000.
The competition aimed to encourage students to explore the history and evolution of Torrent, a peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol used to distribute large files over the internet. Participants were required to write a blog post of 600-800 words on the topic, highlighting the technical aspects, benefits, and challenges of using Torrent.
The event received an overwhelming response from students across various colleges.The submissions were evaluated by a panel of experts based on various parameters such as content, language, originality, and presentation.

Mixed bag was conducted through MySwots on 26th April 2020. The quiz was open from 4pm to 6pm. The quiz consisted of current issues, logical and technical questions. There was a total of 40 questions that was to be completed within a duration of 30 minutes.
2.REMEDY ZONE

As the name states the event was to give an idea presentation which includes awareness and innovative remedy on “HARNESSING TECHNIQUES FOR LOWERING POLLUTION". The participants were given the topic through mail on 27th April 2020, and were given 24hours for submission. The event was judged by Mr. Ameenudeen P E, Assistant Professor, ECE Department, GECI. The event was coordinated by Keerthana.

Scripter was a coding challenge conducted through Hackerrank, on the 28th of April, 2020 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The participants were asked to solve five questions. Out of the 26 participants, 18 made it to the leader board out of which 6 participants were able to complete the whole task. The event was coordinated by Christina Susan Jacob.

IEEE SB GECI and FOSS cell GECI had jointly conducted an event , CODEQUEST a coding competition exclusively for GECIians on HackerRank, a coding platform. The event was a huge success, with 28 participants. Athul Krishna PS from third year IT department bagged the first prize followed by Sruti Mol KS from third year CSE. This was the first venture of IEEE SB GECI and FOSS cell together.

IEEE SB GECI celebrated IEEE day by inviting all members of IEEE SB GEC Idukki. A
fun gathering of 67 members with a cake cutting ceremony. As a part of the celebration, we discussed what is IEEE and how is it useful for the
students. We accepted ideas on the future programme like workshops and quizzes. The celebration was brought to close with a group photo.

QUICENO

IEEE SB GECI conducted the first round of QUICENO,quiz competition, on 31st october 2019 . Around 54 students participated in the competition.The second round of QUICENO was conducted at the EC Department block on 12th November, 2019. The quiz included audio visual questions that tested the logical reasoning skills of students and questions that tested their general knowledge. The round was conducted among the 10 selected participants from the first round. Achyuth K Ravidas and Hiba T were selected as the winners.
