ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
Overview
The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering started functioning right from the beginning of Govt. Engineering college, Idukki, in the year 2000. The four year B-Tech course admits sixty students each year. Six numbers of lateral entry students are also admitted in the third semester. The course is focused on developing quality engineers in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering for the benefit of the society. The Department also offers PG program in Power Electronics & Control which started functioning from the year 2011. The department has well equipped laboratories namely Electrical Machine lab, Power Electronics and System lab, Electronic Circuit and Digital lab, Software lab and Electrical Work shop. Experienced and competent teachers & technical staff add to the strength of the department.

HoDs Message
It gives me immense pride and pleasure to lead the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering that transforms the budding Electrical Engineering aspirants to the core professionals. Electrical Engineers lead their role in a diversified field such as electricity generation, transmission and distribution, Electronics, Computer, Communication and Controls. The demand for reducing the greenhouse gases, with a target to reach zero emission by 2050, makes the Electrical Engineers to replace IC engines with electric motor drives. The role of Electrical Engineer is not just limited to the simple replacement of IC engines with electric drives; it opens another demand to generate electricity efficiently from renewable sources of energy, to meet the additional electricity requirement for driving these electric vehicles. The electricity generation in India has a target for the year 2023-24 at 1750 Billion Unit (BU). With the addition of electric vehicles this will shoot to many folds. The field of Electrical Engineering have been the fastest growing and most challenging technology that enables the development of the modern society. The Department strives to provide a blend of fundamental and core knowledge along with cutting edge developments to create Electrical Engineer who can cope with the requirements of the industry and also can handle the demands of higher studies.
The department encompasses a fine blend of young, dynamic and experienced faculty who can link the academics to industry. Most of the faculty members have excellent track records and has joined the institute with the real passion towards teaching.
The students get immense opportunities to excel in their academic achievements. Apart from the regular curriculum the department aims to develop the students into intellectual prodigy that has a blend of good technical knowledge with equal measure of ethics and compassion.
The department conducts various programs such as Workshops, Technical Trainings, Symposia, Project-expo, Invited Lectures and Seminar by Experts from Industry and Academics for constant knowledge up-gradation of staff and students.
Thomas Alva Edison once said, “I never did anything by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work.”
Let us jointly work to play the leading role in our discipline, and create innovative and effective professionals, graduate from the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
